Effect of iodine and selenium intervention on the thyroid status of older New Zealanders

This study is looking at whether taking iodine and selenium supplements can improve thyroid health in older New Zealanders. Both iodine and selenium are important minerals for a healthy thyroid, and many older New Zealanders have low selenium levels. Researchers want to find out if taking these supplements improves thyroid function and overall health in people aged 65 to 80. You may be eligible if: - You are between 65 and 80 years old - Your blood selenium level is below 100 micrograms per litre - You are not living in a care home or institution - You are able to walk - You are in generally good health with no serious illness You may NOT be eligible if: - You are living in an institution or care facility - Your blood selenium level is 100 micrograms per litre or above - You have a serious medical illness Talk to your doctor about whether this trial might be right for you.
