Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is comparing two methods for treating infected surgical wounds in the abdomen. The first method uses a tube inserted into the wound to continuously rinse it with fluid and apply gentle suction to draw out infection (continuous irrigation and negative pressure drainage). The second method is the traditional approach of keeping the wound open and changing dressings regularly until it heals from the inside out. Researchers believe the tube method may speed up healing. You may be eligible if: - You are between 18 and 80 years old - You developed a wound infection with pus between day 3 and day 7 after abdominal surgery - A wound culture confirmed bacterial infection You may NOT be eligible if: - Your wound infection is associated with a fistula (abnormal connection) from the bowel, pancreas, or bile duct - You have an abscess inside the abdomen - You have diabetes or are taking immunosuppressant medications Talk to your doctor about whether this trial might be right for you.

This is a simplified summary. Always discuss eligibility with your doctor before enrolling in a clinical trial.
