Effects of azitromycin on Hospitalized Infants With Acute Bronchiolitis: A Randomized, prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled study.

This study is testing whether an antibiotic called azithromycin can help infants who are hospitalised with a common chest infection called bronchiolitis get better faster and go home sooner. Bronchiolitis is a viral infection that makes it hard for babies to breathe and often requires extra oxygen in hospital. You may be eligible if: - Your infant is between 10 days and 7 months old - Your infant was admitted to hospital for their first episode of wheezing that needed extra oxygen - Your infant has been diagnosed with bronchiolitis You may NOT be eligible if: - Your infant has heart disease, a metabolic disease, or a significant lung condition such as cystic fibrosis - Your infant received steroids (in any form) in the 7 days before coming to hospital - Your infant has already been given macrolide antibiotics (like azithromycin or erythromycin) Talk to your doctor about whether this trial might be right for you.
