Laser acupuncture in chronic low back pain trial.

This study is testing whether low-level laser light applied to acupuncture points (laser acupuncture) over 8 weekly sessions can reduce pain and disability in people who have had chronic lower back pain for more than 3 months. This is different from traditional needle acupuncture — no needles are used; only a painless laser beam. You may be eligible if: - You are between 19 and 75 years old - You have non-specific low back pain lasting more than 3 months You may NOT be eligible if: - Your pain is less than 3 on a 10-point scale at the start of the study - Your back pain has a specific identified cause (such as infection or cancer) - You have fibromyalgia - You are pregnant or within 3 months of giving birth - You regularly take opioid (strong) pain medicines - You receive a disability support pension for your back pain - You have had lumbar (lower back) surgery - You have had specialist injections for your back pain - You have had acupuncture or dry needling for back pain in the past 6 months Talk to your doctor about whether this trial might be right for you.
