Effect of a short post-operative course of oral prednisone on post-operative morbidity following tonsillectomy in children.

This study is testing whether giving children a short course of oral prednisolone (a steroid tablet) after tonsil removal surgery helps them recover more quickly and with less pain and discomfort. Tonsillectomy is a common operation for children, and recovering from it can be painful. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either prednisolone tablets or a dummy tablet for a short period after surgery. You may be eligible if: - Your child is between 2 and 16 years old - Your child is having a tonsillectomy (tonsil removal) - Your child has a standard anesthesia fitness rating of 1 or 2 You may NOT be eligible if: - Your child has a bleeding disorder - Your child has severe asthma Talk to your doctor about whether this trial might be right for you.
