Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is measuring quality of life in patients who have been treated for laryngeal (voice box) cancer. There are several treatment options for this type of cancer — surgery, radiation, or a combination of both — and each one affects a patient's voice and ability to speak differently. Researchers are using three validated questionnaires to compare how different treatments affect wellbeing, communication, and daily life in patients who finished treatment more than six months ago. You may be eligible if: - You have had surgery or radiation treatment for laryngeal (voice box) cancer - You finished treatment more than 6 months ago and are in good overall condition now - You are able to read, understand, and answer the questionnaires - You have given informed consent to participate You may NOT be eligible if: - You have a past or current serious mental illness - You have a significant heart or lung condition - Your cancer has recently come back (relapse) - You are unable to understand the questionnaire content or do not wish to participate Talk to your doctor about whether this trial might be right for you.

1.The patients with laryngeal cancer and ended treatment at least 6 months will be recruited (use the methods of self evaluation and telephone follow-up )in our research, and they need to fill in The Chinese versions of the European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer Core Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) and Head and Neck Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTCQLQ-H&N35)and Voice Handicap Index(VHI). We also collecting general information and medical record so that we can analyse the effective factor and predict patient quality of life .We will stop recruiting until collect enough cases (expected to be 200 cases). 2.Comparing the QOL of patients through different treatment (e.g.partial laryngectomy, irradiation as primary therapy, laryngectomy, laryngectomy and radiotherapy ) then , discuss the pros and cons of every treatment methods aimed to help doctors find out the most suitable one considering the characteristics of different patients.
