Summary

The purpose of this feasibility study is to determine if a new emerging technology called photoacoustic tomography (PAT) can be adapted for use in humans for the detection of chronic rheumatoid arthritis.

Eligibility

Min Age: 18 Years

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study uses a specialized imaging technique (similar to an MRI but using laser light and sound waves) to look at inflamed joints in people with rheumatoid arthritis, to better understand the disease. **You may be eligible if...** - You are 18 years or older - You have had rheumatoid arthritis for more than 2 years and your rheumatologist has referred you - You are willing to participate as a healthy volunteer with a history of rheumatoid arthritis **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You have a pacemaker, magnetic surgical clips, prostheses, or implanted nerve stimulator - You are pregnant - You are claustrophobic - You have impaired kidney function or are on kidney dialysis - You have very low or unstable blood pressure - You have a muscle breakdown condition (rhabdomyolysis) - You have had an MRI or MRA with contrast dye (gadolinium) in the last 3 months Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
