Pathophysiological Explorations of Red Blood Cells

Red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body, but in some people, these cells are abnormal due to inherited conditions such as sickle cell disease, thalassemia, hereditary spherocytosis, or other rare disorders. This study collects blood and tissue samples from affected individuals and their families to better understand the biology behind these red blood cell diseases. Researchers examine how abnormal proteins, cell structure, or genetic mutations cause red blood cells to work poorly or break down prematurely. This research is exploratory — it builds the scientific foundation needed to develop better treatments for people living with these conditions. Family members are included because these diseases run in families and studying related individuals helps pinpoint the genetic causes. You may be eligible if: - You or a family member has a condition affecting red blood cells - You are affiliated with health insurance (French requirement) - A legal guardian can sign consent for minors or individuals under legal protection You may NOT be eligible if: - You are currently deprived of freedom (incarcerated) Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
