Influenza Associated Aspergillosis In-depth Investigation

This Belgian study is investigating a serious complication called Influenza-Associated Pulmonary Aspergillosis (IAPA), where a fungal infection (Aspergillus) occurs in patients who are critically ill with influenza. Researchers are comparing ICU patients who have confirmed influenza with those who have other types of pneumonia, to understand why some influenza patients develop this deadly fungal infection. You may be eligible if: - You are over 18 years old - You have been admitted to the ICU with respiratory distress - You have a microbiologically confirmed influenza diagnosis (for the influenza group), OR you have confirmed community-acquired pneumonia without influenza (for the control group) You may NOT be eligible if: - You are under 18 years old - You are pregnant - You or your representative cannot or will not provide informed consent Talk to your ICU physician about whether you meet the criteria for this observation study, as enrollment typically happens during a critical illness hospitalization.
