Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is examining how opioid use and HIV infection together affect the immune system — specifically, how well people respond to a flu vaccine. Researchers want to understand whether opioids reduce immune system function and whether this effect is worsened in people living with HIV. **You may be eligible if...** - You have been using prescription opioids or injecting opioids for at least 90 days, OR you have never used opioids in the past year (for comparison) - If HIV-positive: you have been on HIV treatment (ART) for at least 1 year with a very low virus level in your blood - You are able to receive a flu vaccine and continue your opioid use for 4 weeks afterward **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You have a condition that would make flu vaccination unsafe - Your HIV virus is not well controlled on medication - You have had significant immune system problems unrelated to HIV or opioids Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
