Conditions

Summary

The aim of the study is to 1. To determine whether treatment with Erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (in the form of Aranesp®) affects platelet function, and how. 2. To determine whether salicylate treatment changes the effect of EPO (erythropoietin) on platelet function.

Eligibility

Min Age: 18 YearsMax Age: 85 Years

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is investigating whether a low dose of salicylate (a compound related to aspirin) affects how platelets function in people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who are also receiving Aranesp (a drug used to treat anemia in kidney patients). Researchers want to understand if salicylate could have beneficial effects on blood clotting in this group. **You may be eligible if...** - You are between 18 and 85 years old - You have chronic kidney disease (stage 5) managed by hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, or conservative (non-dialysis) treatment - You have an indication to receive Aranesp (erythropoiesis-stimulating agent) for anemia **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You are allergic to aspirin or aspirin-like drugs - You have had a recent bleeding episode or take blood thinners - You are already taking aspirin for a valid medical reason - You have active cancer (except non-melanoma skin cancer) - You are a woman under 50 or still menstruating (due to pregnancy risk on dialysis) - Your Aranesp dose has changed significantly in the past 2 months Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
