Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle that makes it harder for the heart to pump blood efficiently. There are many different types, including dilated (enlarged heart), hypertrophic (thickened heart walls), and arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy. Myocarditis — inflammation of the heart muscle — can also lead to cardiomyopathy over time. These conditions can run in families, but the genetic underpinnings and long-term outcomes are still not fully understood. The Heart Hive is a patient-led registry and research initiative that collects health data, genetic information, and patient-reported outcomes from people with cardiomyopathy or myocarditis, or those who have a close family member with one of these conditions. The goal is to build a large, diverse dataset that can accelerate research into the causes, progression, and best treatments for these conditions. You may be eligible if: - You are 18 years or older - You have a confirmed diagnosis of cardiomyopathy or myocarditis, OR - You have a first or second degree relative with a confirmed diagnosis of cardiomyopathy - You are able to provide informed consent (pregnant women are also eligible) You may NOT be eligible if: - You lack the mental capacity to consent for yourself - You are under 18 - Your cardiomyopathy is caused by coronary artery disease (blocked arteries), prior heart bypass/stent surgery, primary valve disease, or congenital heart disease - You have severe, uncontrolled hypertension (systolic > 180 mmHg and/or diastolic > 120 mmHg) Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.

Interventions

GENETICResearch genetic analysis

Genetic analysis of DNA extracted from saliva. Participants can opt in to receive individual results of research genetic analysis for a predefined panel of clinically actionable cardiomyopathy genes.
