This study is comparing two surgical techniques — a linear stapler versus a circular stapler — used to reconnect the food pipe (esophagus) to the small intestine after total stomach removal surgery for stomach cancer. **You may be eligible if...** - You have been confirmed by biopsy to have stomach (gastric) adenocarcinoma at stages T1 through T4 - Your general health score (ECOG performance status) is 0 or 1 - Your organ function is adequate for surgery **You may NOT be eligible if...** - Your cancer has spread to distant organs (metastatic disease) - The cancer has spread more than 3 cm into the esophagus - You have a very large or diffuse type of stomach cancer (Borrmann type 4 or large type 3) - You have previously received chemotherapy or radiation for another cancer Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
