Summary

The purpose of this clinical study is to learn more about celiac disease pathogenesis and clinical symptoms. In particular, this study will examine the interactions between biological factors such as, intestinal epithelial cells, microbiota, immune system, genetics, and gluten and their effect on celiac disease clinical symptoms, and severity of tissue destruction and its ability to heal in individuals with celiac disease. Information collected in the study will help researchers to generate better resources to advance celiac disease patient care.

Min Age: 18 YearsMax Age: 75 Years

This study investigates how the intestinal lining breaks down and heals in people with celiac disease when they are exposed to or removed from gluten. It compares celiac patients with healthy people. You may be eligible if you: - Are aged 18 to 75 - Have a confirmed celiac disease diagnosis (if in gluten challenge/de-challenge groups) or are a healthy control - Have followed a strict gluten-free diet for at least 12 months (challenge group) or have not been on a gluten-free diet and have typical symptoms (de-challenge group) You may NOT be eligible if you: - Have severe complications of celiac disease - Have other chronic active gastrointestinal diseases - Have selective IgA deficiency - Are pregnant or lactating - Have blood clotting disorders - Are a healthy control with a family history of celiac disease or prior GI surgery Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.

DIETARY_SUPPLEMENTGluten containing snack bar

Ingest snack bars containing 3 grams of gluten every day for 6 weeks.
