Conditions

Summary

The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate the effect of theta burst stimulation for depression and serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in individuals with major depression. The main question it aims to answer is whether 10 sessions of theta burst stimulation can influence the serum level of BDNF. Participants will be randomized into active group and sham group. Researchers will compare the level of BDNF in these groups.

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is examining whether a type of non-invasive brain stimulation called Theta-Burst Stimulation (TBS) — a form of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) — changes levels of a brain protein called BDNF in the blood of people with depression. BDNF plays a role in brain health and mood regulation. **You may be eligible if...** - You are between 20 and 65 years old - You have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (clinical depression) according to standard diagnostic criteria **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You have schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or depression with psychotic features - You have an active substance use disorder (other than nicotine use or light use of sleep aids) - You have a pacemaker, cochlear implant, or other implanted medical device controlled by the body's signals - You have pre-existing noise-induced hearing loss or are on medications that damage hearing - You have uncontrolled diabetes, unstable heart disease, or recent stroke - You take medications that lower the seizure threshold (such as certain antidepressants or antipsychotics) Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
