The Effect of GM-CSF to Preventing Oral Mucositis for Patients With Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Receiving Radiotherapy

This study is testing whether a drug called GM-CSF (a protein that stimulates the immune system and helps repair tissue) can prevent or reduce mouth sores (oral mucositis) in patients receiving chemoradiation for nasopharyngeal carcinoma — a type of cancer in the back of the nose and throat. Mouth sores are a common and painful side effect of this treatment. **You may be eligible if...** - You have been diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma confirmed by a tissue sample - Your cancer is at Stage II through IVa (not yet spread to distant organs) - You are between 18 and 65 years old - You have adequate blood counts, liver function, and kidney function - You are scheduled for chemoradiation or radiation alone **You may NOT be eligible if...** - Your cancer has spread to distant organs - You have had previous radiation or chemotherapy for this cancer - You are pregnant or breastfeeding - You have uncontrolled diabetes, severe heart disease, or other serious illnesses - You have had prior cancer other than certain easily treated skin cancers or cervical cancer in situ Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
