Study on Recurrent Breast Cancer and Repeated Radiation Therapy

This study is testing whether women with recurrent breast cancer in a previously treated breast can safely have breast-conserving surgery again (instead of full breast removal), followed by a second round of radiation therapy, without unacceptable side effects or cancer recurrence. **You may be eligible if...** - You are at least 55 years old - You have a local breast cancer recurrence (only in the breast, not spread elsewhere) with a tumor no larger than 3 cm - Your previous breast-conserving surgery was done at least 3 years ago - You can technically undergo another breast-conserving surgery without needing tissue transfer from another body area - You have not had cancer in the other breast **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You received a radiation boost (extra dose to the tumor bed) during your previous radiation therapy - Imaging suggests the cancer is in multiple spots in the breast, or the area to be removed is larger than 3 cm - You have a condition preventing radiation (such as shoulder joint stiffness, a pacemaker in the radiation field, or scleroderma) - Cancer has spread outside the breast (such as to lymph nodes or distant organs) Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
