Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is looking at how breathing function changes in obese people before and after gastric banding surgery (a type of weight loss surgery). Researchers want to know if weight loss achieved through surgery brings breathing function back to normal levels, both at rest and during exercise. You may be eligible if: - You are scheduled for gastric banding surgery for obesity You may NOT be eligible if: - You have a medical condition that makes some of the breathing tests unsafe (such as epilepsy, which would prevent a methacholine challenge test) Talk to your doctor about whether this trial might be right for you.

This summary was AI-generated to explain the trial in plain language. It is not medical advice. Always discuss eligibility with your doctor before enrolling in a clinical trial.
