Summary
The study is to attain early recognition of the unstable plaques which have an imminent embolic risk in patients with intracranial atherosclerotic disease (IAD).
Eligibility

Plain Language Summary
Simplified for easier understanding
This study uses advanced brain imaging to examine what makes certain plaques (atherosclerosis) inside brain arteries more likely to cause strokes. By comparing patients with and without stroke symptoms, researchers aim to identify imaging features that predict stroke risk.
You may be eligible if:
- You are between 30 and 85 years old
- You have a significant narrowing (60% or more) in a brain artery
- For the symptomatic group: you have had a recent stroke and detectable microemboli (tiny clots) on ultrasound
- For the asymptomatic group: you have a narrowed brain artery but no recent stroke or clots detected
- You have no contraindications to the imaging tests
You may NOT be eligible if:
- Your stroke was caused by something other than artery-to-artery clotting (e.g., a heart clot or Moyamoya disease)
- You have a bleeding disorder or very low platelet count
- You have a medical condition that would prevent you from completing the study
