Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study examines the relationship between the gut microbiome — the community of bacteria living in your intestines — and COVID-19 infection. Emerging evidence suggested that COVID-19 severity might be influenced by gut flora composition, and this study aims to document how infection changes the microbiome and whether those changes correlate with disease outcomes. Participants provide stool samples for microbiome analysis at multiple time points around the time of their COVID-19 infection. This is an observational study — no treatments are given — but findings could inform future treatments targeting the gut. You may be eligible if: - You are 18 or older - You have a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis by RT-PCR within the past week You may NOT be eligible if: - You have had bariatric surgery, total colectomy, or removal of the rectum - You have a postoperative stoma, ostomy, or ileoanal pouch - You are on total parenteral nutrition (TPN) Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
