Child-Parent Familial Hypercholesterolemia Screening

This study is screening young children for familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) — an inherited condition that causes very high cholesterol from birth, dramatically increasing the risk of early heart disease if left untreated. FH often goes undiagnosed for decades. This study uses the opportunity of routine childhood health visits to test children aged 1 to 3, and then tests their parents (cascade screening) if the child's cholesterol is high. Early identification allows families to make diet and lifestyle changes and, if necessary, start treatment early to protect the heart. You may be eligible if: - Your child is between 1 and 3 years old - Your child is receiving routine child care at a participating clinic You may NOT be eligible if: - The researcher determines participation is not suitable for your child (based on individual assessment) Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
