Summary
A prospective study of individuals without varicose veins and who have primary varicose veins to assess the morbidity, risk factors and natural course of chronic lower limb vein disease.
Eligibility
Min Age: 10 Years
Plain Language Summary
Simplified for easier understanding
This study is following a group of individuals over time — primarily the researcher's own family members and close associates — to track the natural development and progression of varicose veins: twisted, enlarged surface veins most commonly found in the legs. Varicose veins are extremely common, affecting up to 30% of adults, but their natural course without treatment is not well documented. This cohort study will perform annual clinical exams and ultrasound imaging of the venous system to map how varicose veins develop, progress, and affect blood flow over years or decades.
This is a long-term observation study with no experimental treatment. It provides important baseline data on venous disease progression.
You may be eligible if:
- You are 10 years or older
- You are a family member, spouse, sibling, parent, or child of the researcher, or the researcher themselves
- You are willing and able to attend annual clinical and ultrasound assessments
You may NOT be eligible if:
- You have previously had any treatment for chronic venous disorders (such as sclerotherapy or vein stripping)
- You have a history of venous thrombosis (blood clot in a vein) at any time, or at the time of enrollment
