Summary

In this prospective study, the primary objective will be to investigate the association between the use of antibiotics administered during the admission period of Stem cell transplant (SCT) and the rate of overall change in microbiota composition across adjacent samples in time.

Eligibility

Min Age: 18 YearsMax Age: 80 Years

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

Stem cell transplantation (SCT) is a treatment for blood cancers and other bone marrow conditions. One underappreciated aspect of transplant outcomes is the role of the gut microbiome — the trillions of bacteria living in the intestine. This study is tracking how the intestinal microbiome changes before, during, and after stem cell transplantation, to understand how these changes affect engraftment success, infections, and complications like graft-versus-host disease. Participants provide stool samples at multiple time points. No experimental treatments are involved — the study is purely observational. You may be eligible if... - You are between 18 and 80 years old - You are scheduled to undergo an allogenic or autologous stem cell transplant (SCT) - Your SCT is for a malignant blood condition or bone marrow failure You may NOT be eligible if... - You do not meet the age criteria - You are undergoing SCT for a non-hematological condition Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
