Project AMD: Comprehensive Characterisation of Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Its Progression

This study, called Project AMD, is building a detailed database of patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and people with normal aging eyes to better understand how AMD develops and progresses over time. AMD is the leading cause of vision loss in people over 50 in high-income countries. It affects the macula — the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision — causing it to slowly deteriorate. Participants undergo comprehensive eye examinations including high-resolution retinal imaging and other tests to document the current state of their eyes. The study follows participants over time to track how AMD progresses, identify risk factors, and find new ways to detect early signs of the disease. This research could lead to better early detection methods and treatments in the future. You may be eligible if: - You are 18 or older - You have been diagnosed with AMD (medium or large drusen or other AMD features), OR you are a healthy person with age-related changes in the retina willing to participate as a control You may NOT be eligible if: - You have other eye or systemic conditions (besides AMD) that could affect the retinal assessment - You have physical or mental impairments that prevent you from signing an informed consent form or taking part in the study Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
