Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is examining how dental implants perform in patients who are taking antiresorptive medications — drugs used to treat osteoporosis or cancer that prevent bone breakdown, such as bisphosphonates (e.g., Zoledronic acid or Alendronate) or denosumab. These medications are important for preventing fractures and controlling bone metastases in cancer, but they can also affect how well bones heal after dental procedures, raising concerns about whether dental implants will be successful in people taking them. Researchers are tracking whether dental implants placed in patients on antiresorptive therapy integrate properly with the bone (osseointegrate) and how they perform over time. If implants prove safe and effective in this population, it will expand dental care options for cancer and osteoporosis patients. You may be eligible if: - You have cancer or osteoporosis and are being treated with antiresorptive medication - You have sufficient bone quality and quantity to receive an implant without bone grafting - Your expected lifespan is at least 2 years from the time of enrollment - You are willing and able to attend all follow-up visits You may NOT be eligible if: - You smoke more than 10 cigarettes per day - Your HbA1c (blood sugar control marker) is greater than 53 mmol/mol (poorly controlled diabetes) - You have poor oral hygiene - Your general health status is poor (ECOG score 3 or 4) - You have liver or brain metastases from cancer - Your bone quality is very poor (Cawood classification stage 3 or 4) - Your expected survival is less than 2 years Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
