Summary

The primary objective of this study is to measure the impact of patient-specific 3D specimen maps on adjuvant radiation treatment volumes and doses to critical organs. All patients will receive standard-of-care post-operative radiotherapy not impacted by the experimental 3D specimen maps. The secondary objective is to demonstrate the feasibility of incorporating 3D specimen mapping tools into post-operative communication, and to determine if utilization of the 3D specimen map improves post-operative communication between surgeons, pathologists, and radiation oncologists.

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is testing whether detailed 3D maps of surgically removed head and neck cancer specimens can help radiation oncologists more precisely plan post-operative radiation therapy, potentially reducing damage to healthy tissue while ensuring the cancer area is fully treated. **You may be eligible if...** - You are over 18 years old - You have a confirmed head and neck cancer (mucosal type) in areas such as the oral cavity, throat, voice box, or pharynx - You have already completed surgery to remove the primary tumor - You have consented to 3D specimen mapping under a linked protocol - You are scheduled to receive post-surgical radiation therapy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center or affiliated sites **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You are under 18 years old - Your cancer is a skin cancer (cutaneous malignancy) - You have characteristics that make informed consent difficult - You are pregnant - You have medical reasons that prevent you from receiving radiation therapy Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
