Capsule Microbiota Sampling in IBS/Functional Gastrointestinal Disease

This study is using a swallowable capsule to collect samples of bacteria from different parts of the digestive tract in people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or other functional gut disorders. Current tests for gut bacteria usually rely on stool samples, which mainly reflect the colon. This capsule gives researchers a window into microbes throughout the small and large intestine. **You may be eligible if...** - You are 18 to 70 years old - You are generally healthy or have only mild systemic disease - You have symptoms consistent with IBS, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), or a functional gastrointestinal disorder based on established criteria - You can understand English and are willing to follow study instructions - Women of childbearing age must use reliable contraception and have a negative pregnancy test **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You have had stomach or esophagus surgery, including weight loss surgery - You have had a bowel obstruction, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, or an ileostomy/colostomy - You have difficulty or pain swallowing - You are currently taking any medication for a gastrointestinal condition - You are pregnant or breastfeeding - You have an active substance use disorder Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
