Conditions

Summary

This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of early versus delayed initiation of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with acute ischemic stroke related to atrial fibrillation after emergency endovascular therapy (EVT).

Eligibility

Min Age: 18 Years

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is looking at the best time to start blood thinners (anticoagulation) after someone has had an emergency procedure to remove a blood clot in the brain (endovascular thrombectomy) and also has atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm that increases stroke risk). Starting blood thinners too early or too late can both be dangerous after a stroke. **You may be eligible if...** - You are 18 or older - You had an acute ischemic stroke caused by a blocked large blood vessel - You received emergency clot-removal treatment (endovascular therapy) within 24 hours of stroke onset - You have atrial fibrillation (confirmed by ECG or medical records) - Your brain scan shows no major bleeding or only a minor type of bleeding after treatment **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You have significant or large bleeding in the brain after treatment - You have other reasons you cannot safely take blood thinners - You are under 18 Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
