Conditions

Summary

The study is designed to assess the effectiveness of removing polyps in the colon using a common technique, the biopsy forceps.

Eligibility

Sex: Both males and femalesMin Age: 18 Yearss

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is checking how effective a technique called cold biopsy forceps polypectomy is at fully removing small polyps (less than 5mm) found in the colon during colonoscopy. Polyps are small growths in the bowel that can sometimes turn into cancer if left untreated. Researchers want to measure how completely the forceps remove these tiny polyps compared to other techniques. You may be eligible if: - You are 18 years or older - You have small polyps in your colon that are less than 5mm in size You may NOT be eligible if: - You are under 18 years old - You are taking blood-thinning medication (Clopidogrel or Warfarin with an INR above 2) - You have a cardiac pacemaker or implantable defibrillator Talk to your doctor about whether this trial might be right for you.

This is a simplified summary. Always discuss eligibility with your doctor before enrolling in a clinical trial.

Patients with colonic polyps under 5mm will undergo forceps polypectomy without electrocautery until what there is no visible polyp tissue. The first sample(s) will be stored and labelled as 1a. The polypectomy site will then be resected using endoscopic mucosal resection. This sample will be stored and labelled 1b. The two samples will be collected during the same procedure. The polypectomy procedures are expected to take less than 15 minutes. Comparison of sample 1a and 1b will allow us to assess efficacy of resection with forceps polypectomy. The study duration/intervention will be 12 months.
