Summary

The aim is to determine the metabolic factors, host immune factors, and medical imaging data associated with the development of HepatoCellular Carcinoma (HCC) in patients with alcohol-related liver disease or dysmetabolic steatosis/Non-Alcoholic SteatoHepatitis. The investigators will include patients with and without cirrhosis in order to identify early molecular mechanisms involved in the development of HCC especially in non-cirrhotic patients.

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is examining liver disease in people who drink alcohol heavily or have metabolic syndrome (a cluster of conditions related to obesity and diet). Researchers want to better understand how alcohol-related liver disease and fatty liver disease differ at a biological level, and whether liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) develops differently in each group. Participants will have a standard liver biopsy as part of their regular care. **You may be eligible if...** - You are 18 or older and covered by French social security - You are scheduled for a routine liver biopsy (either because of suspected liver cancer or abnormal liver tests) - You fall into one of these groups: heavy drinker with or without liver cancer, OR low-to-moderate drinker with fatty liver disease with or without liver cancer **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You have HIV, active hepatitis C, or hepatitis B - You have a history of autoimmune liver disease (such as autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis, or Wilson's disease) - You have used long-term medications like methotrexate or immunosuppressants - You have had an organ or bone marrow transplant - You are pregnant or breastfeeding - You are undergoing active treatment for cancer (except certain skin cancers) Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
