Summary

The Analgesia Nociception Index (ANI) reflects the balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic tone. It is based on a specific interpretation of the R-R interval variation. During fluid removal by net ultrafiltration in patients with fluid overload and continuous renal replacement therapy, some data suggest that haemodynamic variation could be induced by the autonomic nervous system. The study aims to investigate ANI variations in this context and their association with the haemodynamic variations observed.

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This observational study examines how the autonomic nervous system (the part of the nervous system that controls involuntary functions like heart rate) responds when critically ill patients with fluid overload undergo fluid removal through continuous kidney replacement therapy. Researchers will use a non-invasive index called the Analgesia Nociception Index to measure the balance between sympathetic and parasympathetic activity during this process. Eligible participants are ICU patients on continuous renal replacement therapy who are awake or lightly sedated, have a regular heart rhythm, and are monitored with invasive blood pressure and central venous lines. Participation is observational and does not change the patient's standard treatment. This summary was prepared to help patients understand the study in plain language.

This summary was AI-generated to explain the trial in plain language. It is not medical advice. Always discuss eligibility with your doctor before enrolling in a clinical trial.
