A Study of Opportunistic Salpingectomy to Prevent Ovarian Cancer

This study investigates whether removing the fallopian tubes (opportunistic salpingectomy) at the time of another planned abdominal or pelvic surgery can help prevent ovarian cancer. Most ovarian cancers are now believed to start in the fallopian tubes, so removing them during an already-planned surgery is an important potential cancer prevention strategy. **You may be eligible if...** - You are female (or assigned female at birth), 45 years or older - You have at least one fallopian tube still in place - You have no desire to have children in the future - You are at average risk of ovarian cancer (no known genetic predisposition such as BRCA mutations) - You are already scheduled for a non-gynecologic abdominal or pelvic surgery - A gynecologic surgeon and your primary surgeon have both agreed you are a suitable candidate **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You have a known inherited risk of ovarian cancer (e.g., BRCA1/2 mutation) - You are fluent only in a language other than English or Spanish (for Part 1 only; exceptions may apply) - Both fallopian tubes have already been removed Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
