A Study to Evaluate Splenectomy on Debridement for Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis With Pancreatic Sinistral Portal Hypertension

This study is evaluating whether removing the spleen (splenectomy) during surgical debridement — a procedure to remove infected or dead tissue — leads to better outcomes in patients with severe acute pancreatitis (a serious inflammation of the pancreas) that is complicated by a specific type of high blood pressure in the veins near the pancreas and spleen. **You may be eligible if...** - You are between 18 and 75 years old - You have acute necrotizing pancreatitis (severe pancreas inflammation with tissue death) complicated by left-sided portal hypertension (high pressure in the veins near the spleen) - You are having open surgery to remove infected pancreatic tissue **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You had pre-existing heart, lung, liver, kidney, or other organ failure before your pancreatitis - You had pre-existing liver cirrhosis or other conditions that could already cause high blood pressure in the portal veins - You had a pre-existing blood disorder - You are having laparoscopic (keyhole) or nephroscopic surgery instead of open surgery Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
