Summary

The main purpose of this study is to look at how often anastomotic leaks happen in participants who are at high risk of these leaks and are eligible to receive gastric preconditioning by percutaneous angioembolization before an esophagectomy.

Eligibility

Min Age: 18 Years

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This registry is tracking outcomes in patients with esophageal cancer who are at high risk of a complication called an anastomotic leak — a serious condition where the surgical connection between the remaining esophagus and stomach fails to heal properly after esophageal removal surgery (esophagectomy). The registry will help researchers understand which pre-surgical preparation techniques work best. **You may be eligible if:** - You have been diagnosed with esophageal cancer (confirmed by pathology) and need an esophagectomy - You have one or more risk factors for anastomotic leak, such as: previous bariatric surgery, salvage esophagectomy, planned cervical anastomosis, or two or more of: diabetes, obesity, heart disease, vascular disease, steroid use, high blood pressure, smoking history, kidney problems, or heart failure - You have agreed to receive a gastric preconditioning procedure before surgery - You are 18 years of age or older - You are in adequate general health (ECOG performance status ≤2) **You may NOT be eligible if:** - You do not have esophageal cancer requiring esophagectomy - You have not agreed to the gastric preconditioning procedure Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.

This is a simplified summary. Always discuss eligibility with your doctor before enrolling in a clinical trial.
