Summary

This study aims to define the optimal surveillance strategy for children exposed to radiotherapy by assessing the incidence, risk factors, and timing of thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer. It also investigates the genetic features of thyroid tumors in this population to identify predictive biomarkers of onset, malignancy, and aggressiveness. Ultimately, the goal is to support more personalized management, including tailored surgery and targeted therapies.

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is looking at whether children who received radiation therapy for cancer at a young age have a higher risk of developing thyroid cancer later in life. Researchers will compare thyroid health outcomes in children who received radiation versus those who did not. **You may be eligible if...** - You received radiation therapy for a cancer condition between 1999 and 2018 - You were under 18 years old at the time of radiation treatment - You have had at least 4 years of follow-up care at the relevant clinic - OR you are in the comparison group: under 18 with no history of radiation exposure and no known thyroid cancer risk factors, who had a thyroid ultrasound between 1999 and 2018 **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You were transferred to another medical center before completing 4 years of follow-up (for the radiation group) Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
