Comparison of Post Operative Analgesia in Patients Undergoing Lower Abdominal Surgeries Receiving Ultrasound Guided Block With Dexmetomidine vs Dexmethasone

Comparison of Mean Duration of Post Operative Analgesia in Patients Undergoing Lower Abdominal Surgeries Receiving US Transversus Abdominis Plane Block (TAP) With Bupivacaine and Dexmetomidine vs Bupivacaine nd Dexmethasone

Conditions

Summary

Lower abdominal surgeries cause significant pain and can be managed by injecting local anesthetic agents between muscles of abdominal wall that can provide post operative pain relief and its duration can be prolonged by adding drugs to local anesthetic regimen

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study compares two pain-relief approaches for patients having lower abdominal surgeries, looking at whether adding dexmedetomidine or dexamethasone to a nerve block (TAPP block) provides better or longer-lasting pain relief after the operation. The TAPP block is an ultrasound-guided injection of local anesthetic between the abdominal muscles that can numb the area after surgery. Eligible participants are adults with a BMI of 25–35 kg/m² classified as ASA I or II (generally healthy or with mild systemic disease) who are scheduled for lower abdominal surgery. Participation involves receiving one of the two study drug combinations as part of routine anesthesia care and being monitored for pain levels after surgery.
