Harnessing Macrophage Lysosomal Lipid Metabolism in Obesity (ATM)

This research study examines how fat-processing cells called macrophages in fat tissue behave differently in people who are lean, metabolically healthy obese, or obese with type 2 diabetes. The goal is to understand what drives fat tissue inflammation and metabolic dysfunction in obesity to help develop better treatments. **You may be eligible if:** - You are between 18 and 70 years old - You are weight-stable (not actively gaining or losing weight) and relatively sedentary - You do not smoke, drink excessively, or take supplements/medications affecting metabolism (with some exceptions for the diabetes group) - You fit into one of three groups: lean (BMI 18.5-24.9), metabolically healthy obese (no diabetes, normal blood sugar), or obese with type 2 diabetes - You have no significant organ disease (no cancer, severe kidney disease, etc.) **You may NOT be eligible if:** - You are pregnant or breastfeeding - You smoke or use tobacco products - You have significant organ disease - You do not meet the specific BMI and metabolic criteria for any of the three groups Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
