Conditions

Summary

Investigators assume that surgical correction approach to functional mitral regurgitation during intervention for chronic aortic regurgitation in patients with severe enlargement of the left heart chambers influences reverse remodeling of the left ventricle (LV) in the postoperative period. It is suggested that functional mitral regurgitation (MR) provides supra-physiological left ventricle volume overload and this fact plays positive role in early-stage post-operative left ventricle volume and function recovery. LV volume, systolic and diastolic function will be monitored with echocardiography (EchoCG) along with life quality in patients with different grades of functional mitral regurgitation secondary to severe chronic aortic insufficiency after surgical treatment of aortic regurgitation.

Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This study is examining how the heart remodels and recovers after surgery to fix a leaky aortic valve (aortic regurgitation), specifically in patients who also have a mildly leaky mitral valve and a very enlarged left ventricle. **You may be eligible if...** - You are 18 or older - You are scheduled for elective (non-emergency) surgery to repair or replace a chronically leaky aortic valve - You also have a mildly leaky mitral valve caused by the heart's enlargement (functional mitral regurgitation) - Your left ventricle (main pumping chamber) is significantly enlarged (end-diastolic volume at least 250 mL) **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You have an active heart infection (endocarditis) - You have had a previous heart attack - You need bypass surgery at the same time - Your aortic valve problem came on suddenly (acute) - You have a pre-existing cause of an enlarged left ventricle unrelated to the leaky aortic valve - You have long-term persistent or permanent atrial fibrillation - You are pregnant or plan to become pregnant within 12 months of surgery - You have a pacemaker Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
