Plain Language Summary

Simplified for easier understanding

This trial is studying how type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes affect the loss and recovery of muscle mass in older adults during and after a period of bed rest, to understand why diabetic patients lose muscle more quickly and heal more slowly. **You may be eligible if...** - You are between 60 and 80 years old - You have pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes managed only with certain oral medications (DPP-4 inhibitors, sulfonylureas, and/or metformin) - Your blood sugar control is reasonable (A1C below 8.0%) - You are able to participate in a supervised bed rest research study **You may NOT be eligible if...** - You use insulin or injectable diabetes medications (like GLP-1 agonists) - You use SGLT2 inhibitors or thiazolidinediones - Your blood sugar is poorly controlled (A1C 8.0% or above) - You are unable to safely undergo supervised bed rest Talk to your doctor to see if this trial is right for you.
